A new style of afternoon tea with savories taking the leading role — the Hokkaido Summer Afternoon Tea — will be available for a limited time at Hotel Sosei Sapporo MGallery Collection.

While afternoon tea traditionally places sweets at center stage, this experience turns convention on its head by making savories the star. Seven savory creations brimming with the seasonal flavors of Hokkaido’s summer are joined by sweets such as a melon macaron and lavender cake, and crowned by a parfait that elevates Sapporo’s own “shime-parfait” culture to hotel quality — together forming an entirely new style of afternoon tea.

The very ground on which Hotel Sosei Sapporo MGallery Collection stands is where, in 1876, the Kaitakushi Brewery — the forerunner of Sapporo Beer — was born. Just as summer in Hokkaido has always been accompanied by beer, the welcome drink for this experience may be chosen from sparkling wine or Sapporo Classic Beer. A new style of “afternoon tea that pairs beautifully with beer” begins right here.

The savory selection features seven dishes, including a Hokkaido hanasaki crab and asparagus quiche, Hokkaido octopus à la gallega, “The Twilight Corn Wagon” — an homage to the beloved corn wagons of Odori Park — and Hokkaido chicken spiced fritters that carry on Sapporo’s soup curry heritage. With its rich, savory and lightly salted composition, the lineup pairs perfectly with a chilled beer. Playful, photogenic touches appear throughout, such as a light-green macaron adorned with chocolate work evoking a melon vine. To finish, savor the Hokkaido Melon Shime-Parfait — generously crowned with juicy Hokkaido melon — as an elegant afternoon coda.
